Programme includes

Quintet for Strings by Mokale Kopeng
“we shall stick to the classics for the rest of the programme”

An endless passion for music, for voices, for discovery, for people, for life.

Founded and directed by international double bass virtuoso Leon Bosch, I Musicanti is a flexible, mixed-instrument chamber ensemble bringing together some of the UK’s most distinguished soloists and chamber musicians. The ensemble was created to explore repertoire that falls between the cracks of convention: great works by neglected composers, overlooked masterpieces by celebrated figures, and historically significant repertoire that deserves a modern voice.

At the heart of I Musicanti’s work lies a commitment to intelligent programming and rigorous scholarship, combined with the spontaneity and freedom of true chamber music collaboration. Programmes are built around curiosity and rediscovery, often juxtaposing familiar works with unjustly forgotten ones, or presenting chamber arrangements that illuminate major repertoire from a new perspective.

The ensemble has developed a growing discography of critically praised recordings. On the SOMM label, I Musicanti and pianist Peter Donohoe released the widely acclaimed British Piano Quintets (Volume 1), reviving substantial Victorian repertoire and receiving enthusiastic reviews for both its advocacy and artistry. A second volume – featuring piano quintets by George Macfarren, Joseph Street and Steve Elcock – continues this commitment to expanding the recorded canon.

The ensemble has also recorded major works for the “Trout” instrumentation, alongside rare chamber repertoire that reflects Leon Bosch’s long-standing dedication to restoring neglected music to the
mainstream.

I Musicanti collaborates regularly with internationally renowned artists and appears at leading UK venues and festivals, including Wigmore Hall and other major concert platforms. Each project is shaped not simply as a performance, but as a contribution to the living chamber music tradition – combining performance, research, and recording to ensure that rediscovered works remain part of the repertoire.

Rooted in artistic freedom and collective excellence, I Musicanti continues to build a distinctive profile as one of the UK’s most enterprising and intellectually engaged chamber ensembles.
