David Ward will be giving a lecture recital with piano entitled “Mozart and His Contemporaries”. He is well-known locally especially to members living in Baslow.
It is quite a while since we had any ‘Early Music’ and this will be provided for us at our second concert by the Dowland Consort, a group of six young players, who will be performing on replicas of the original instruments (viols, lutes, cittern, bandora and recorder) in a programme of English 17th century music from the Golden Age.
This concert will be given by Wessex Winds (horn, oboe, flute, clarinet and bassoon), who stepped in after the cancellation by three young and promising performers, Julie Price (bassoon), a former pupil of Lady Manners, with Richard Hewitt (oboe) and Jill Smith (clarinet), on the appointment of Julie Price as principal bassoon to the BBC Scottish Orchestra.
Due to the sudden illness of David Parkhouse, it is not possible to hear the Music Group of London this evening. We are grateful, however, to Keith Puddy, the clarinettist who was to have played with them, for coming to our rescue at very short notice and giving an alternative concert with Gwenneth Prior (piano).
