The season begins with a visit by members of Ensemble 360, our near neighbours from Music in the Round in Sheffield. The concert is given by the string quartet players of Ensemble 360, the Elias Quartet, joined by the Ensemble’s pianist Tim Horton. In their short time together these musicians have earned critical acclaim.

We are delighted to welcome a return visit in 2009 by the Endellion Quartet, one of the world’s leading ensembles, and winners of the Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Best Chamber Ensemble. The Plane Dukes Rahman Trio is the unusual combination of piano, clarinet and viola. That gives us the opportunity to hear Mozart’s Kegelstatt Trio which is one of the great works for that combination. The Trio has played at the Wigmore Hall and leading music festivals at home and abroad. They regularly appear on Radio 3 and are Artists in Residence at Queen’s University, Bristol.

For the final concert of the season we have booked an outstanding international artist, Imogen Cooper .Her recent orchestral performances were with the New York Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw and Philharmonia. During 2008 and 2009 Imogen Cooper will be performing the last six years of Schubert’s solo works, as part of the International Piano Series in London, and she is performing from that sequence for us. “She is an outstanding artist, one of the finest pianists now playing.
