The Vanbrugh Quartet will make their second appearance. They have continued to build on their success as winners of the 1988 London International String Quartet Competition (formerly Portsmouth). They perform in London, across the country and in America and Europe, and broadcast regularly. Their programme will include Beethoven’s great quartet Op. 131.

Philip Dukes, sponsored by the Countess of Munster Trust, has won a succession of awards and prizes. He has appeared with leading orchestras including the Philharmonia and the London Mozart Players. He has been heard on Radio 3 and on Classic FM. Sophia Rahman, also from the Munster stable, will play three Intermezzi for piano by Brahms.

Andrew Wilde was introduced to the Committee by an outstanding CD of Haydn sonatas. Having won first prize at the 1980 Bosendorfer Young Pianists International Competition, and after studying at the RNC under Ryszard Bakst, Andrew made his London debut with the Royal Philharmonic in 1986 since when he has played with many top British orchestras. His Wigmore Hall debut took place in the same year and he has given recitals in the USA and in Poland. A new release for Collins Classics was received with enthusiasm by the critics.

During their 1992-93 tour of Britain the Academia from Prague were well received by the critics. Their recordings of the quintets by Reicha are of high quality; their visit promises to be a memorable occasion.

The last concert of the season will be given by a piano trio of well established reputation. The Joachim Trio was formed in 1986 by the coming together of John Lenehan (piano), Rebecca Hirsch (violin) and Caroline Dearnley (cello). The trio broadcasts regularly for BBC Radio 3, and has recorded under several labels.
