Members who remember hearing Kathryn Stott who came to us shortly after her success in the Leeds Competition will be glad to have the chance of hearing her again at out first concert. Now an international artist, and well known through her records, Kathryn Stott will be playing works by Haydn, Beethoven (Waldstein Sonata), Ravel and Chopin.
In November, a young string quartet from Eire will play Haydn’s Op. 76 No. 3, Beethoven’s Op. 74 and a quartet by Debussy. The Vanbrugh Quartet have not only done very well in competitions but they are receiving a very good press. Having performed in Britain, they will be touring Holland, Spain and the Scandinavian countries this year.
The third concert in March 1990 will be by the London Wind Trio, all three well-known soloists in their own right. They recently toured the world taking in 17 countries and 4 continents and they have a very wide repertoire. Those who remember Keith Puddy’s playing in April 1988 will look forward to this concert.
Finally we are to hear the Prometheus Ensemble made up of some of Britain’s finest young chamber music players with many international awards to their credit. Formed in 1984 they have toured widely in Europe and will come to us as a string quartet with clarinet, and will include the Mozart Clarinet Quintet in the programme as well as a Clarinet Quartet by Stamitz.
