The first concert of the season will be another first for the Society with five string players. The English String Quartet with Norbert Blume (viola) will play quintets by Mozart and Vaughan Williams, a Beethoven Quartet, and Purcell’s Fantasia ‘upon one note’. Their leader, Diana Cummings, visited us last season with the London Harpsichord Ensemble.
The Music Group of London have delighted us on previous visits. This time Eileen Croxford and David Parkhouse will be joined by Hugh Bean (violin) and Timothy Brown (horn) in a programme of works by Mozart, Brahms and Shostakovich.
Two of the Marwood Ensemble are already well-known to us, Catherine Marwood (viola and recorder) in the Fairfield Quartet and Caroline Marwood (oboe). They will be joined by Christopher Marwood (cello), Anthony Marwood (violin) and Fergus Morrison (piano), Catherine’s husband. A truly family affair.
The season ends with Amanda Crawley (soprano) and Ian Taylor (guitar).
